THE THIRD ANNUAL ANN ARBOR INNER PEACE FESTIVAL
WHEN: Sunday, June 16th, 2013, 12:00pm-5:00pm
WHERE: Downtown Ann Arbor (Main Street between Washington & Liberty)
The third annual Ann Arbor Inner Peace Festival is once again bringing consciousness and peace to the city on June 16, 2013. Come and contribute to peace in Michigan and the world! ~Contemplate the words of peace leaders, delight in live music, eat local foods, receive a spiritual blessing for healing, visit local peace partner booths, or bring your kids for face painting.
Building on the success of last year’s festival, this inter-spirituality event is a major opportunity for Ann Arbor to unify in one mind, one heart and one love- it is our way of contributing to peace in the world. How does this happen? The Inner Peace Festival will have meditations, blessings, prayer and other activities to help individuals find peace inside. Through learning how to forgive, how to give and how to love what is inside of us, we can then bring that peace to the world around us.
Ministers from the Center of Light, a Christian mystical spiritual school, will be giving powerful blessings for people to receive healing. A blessing can speed up the process of clearing out negativity inside to make space for inner peace.
“Ultimately, we have just one moral duty: to reclaim large areas of peace in ourselves, more and more peace, and to reflect it towards others. And the more peace there is in us, the more peace there will also be in our troubled world.” – Etty Hillesum – Holocaust Survivor
Pick up a Peaceport at the Greeting area. Take a walk around the block and explore some different ways to find, feel and express your Inner Peace.
“What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us. And when we bring what is within out into the world, miracles happen.” – Henry David Thoreau

Lori Fithian has been facilitating drum circles and leading workshops since 1998. She grew up in a musical family, starting out early – banging on Tupperware as a toddler, tapping on 7-up bottles and an old set of bongos in family porch jams as a kid, playing the french horn in school – all before discovering the world of hand drumming and drum circling, around 1989. A “folk” student of many different drum traditions: West African, Brazilian, Japanese, Cuban, Middle Eastern and more, she travels around Michigan with a van-load of all kinds of drums and percussion sharing her love for the universal groove that touches hearts and brings folks together in rhythm. She also hosts a monthly FREE open Drummunity Circle at Crazy Wisdom Bookstore. She’ll try any musical instrument, and encourages others to get spontaneous, creative, silly and connected through music and all kinds of rhythmic expressions – drum, dance, voice, etc.
Come and feel the peace of moving Your Bodies Way
Megan Rose Sims has been dancing most of her life, starting as early as five years old dancing around the living room. As a certified Nia instructor she brings a special Zen to the classes she teaches. With a degree in Dance from the University of Michigan and a Masters Degree in Psychology, Megan combines her education, experience and commitment to peace in a unique and inclusive way. Through her generous teaching style, she brings dance and music together as a healing force.
Let Dixon’s passionate playing inspire your Inner Peace.
The world’s premier digital violinist, Dixon’s life mission is to inspire people! And he has done so across North America, captivating audiences at intimate shows, and wowing crowds of thousands, including Burning Man, giving two TED talks/performances, plus radio and TV. Recently giving up a distinguished career to follow his dream full-time, he shows the beauty of doing something seemingly impossible, and bares his soul through his instrument in a mesmerizing one-man show unlike anything you’ve experienced. Dixon was classically trained from the age of 10, grew to a symphony violinist, then digital master, and now music shaman. Dixon’s passionate energy will enchant, transform, and inspire you.
Creative Movement for Every Body
Leila Jamshidi brings the joy of dance to her teaching. Her class facilitates personal expression and creativity in movement. She has a BA in Dance, is a certified Pilates instructor, and has studied a variety of movement modalities and dance improvisation styles. Since returning to Michigan, from the Bay Area, in 2010, she has discovered social dancing in the forms of salsa, Argentine tango, and West Coast Swing. Her work explores the interplay between structure and freedom.
Love who you are. Make the world better.
Leela (or lila) is a word that refers to the dance of life; divine creative play. It is a movement within the unexpected and the unknown that expresses the playful and creative quality of our being. More deeply, it can be understood to be a positive and creative response to whatever it is that life sends our way. This response, this movement, becomes the dance of life; the leela. Nicole has been practicing Hatha yoga for more than ten years, and has been exploring eastern philosophies and theology since the age of thirteen. She earned her first yoga teaching certification in Hatha yoga at Namaste Yoga in Royal Oak with Linda Makowski. In the summer of 2010 she completed her 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher training and has been teaching ever since! She has completed extensive training in yoga through progressive teacher trainings and workshops.
Feel your unique Inner Vibration through the vibraphone.
The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative, joyous, multi-cultural circle dances that use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from the many spiritual traditions of the earth to touch the spiritual essence within ourselves and recognize it in others. Building on the work begun by Samuel L. Lewis in the 1960s, they promote peace and integration within individuals and understanding and connection within groups worldwide. There are no performers nor audience: new arrivals and old hands form the circle as everyone sings and dances together. http://peacedance.multifaithjourneys.org/
